The Pixil team made it out to Orlando for the Maker Faire 2012. We checked out some interesting vendors and captured the latest in DIY, robotics, science and art. It was a pretty awesome time, here’s our video highlights for you to check out!
Our main highlight for us was meeting with the FamiLAB guys and checking out all the home made 3D Printers. It was great to see so many 3D Printers in one place! We were very grateful to find out a new place to shop for PLA filament. The shop over at UltiMachine stocks tons of colors in PLA. We were also happy to find a better way to load filament without a spool.
There were a lot of artists, musicians and interactive demos that were really inspiring for all DIY makers alike. There was a dedicated room dubbed “The Dark Side” which showcased awesome artwork, like the infamous Propolis from Christine Betow. Mr. Blue had an awesome performance on his PVC Xylophone, and Dr. Moonstien jammed on some circuit bending instruments. Barry Anderson from Central Florida Effects displayed some amazing work on zombies. Aleric Art showcased some mind blowing sculptures that were really unique.
Out side the building, the Electric Vehicle Association of Central Florida had several vehicles converted to electric. There was also a sweet mini racing track where teams from FamiLAB, Skillhouse, and Full Sail University played a few rounds of Mario Kart themed racing (Rockets included).
All the crazy demos and music, it was great to see the kids focusing and learning like during the soldering sessions. This year, we found it hard to call it a “Mini” maker faire, we wish we captured everything but there was just too much cool stuff!
